DC at the Grange Hotel St Paul’s tonight.  Large room, almost full.  Good food, less good wine.  DC cracked a couple of good jokes – looking at the banner behind him (saying Conservative City Circle) he said, “Ah, a wonderful message – obviously not written by Gordon Brown because it’s spelt correctly”.

Mostly he just gave an uplifting rallying call – financial services industry is critical to Britain’s welfare, we employ 100,00s of people in Scotland the North West the Midlands and London, he will not forget that and the Conservative Party values that.

Shame that he, nor any of the speakers, ever take questions.  I e-mailed his organiser at Central Office to ask why not and she said it was because there are too many people at this kind of event…  I don’t accept that – numbers alone are irrelevant.  Is it because he is nervous about being asked a question he doesn’t know the answer to?
