Modern paintings of the parables on the walls - a good Samaritan tends to a homeless man with St Paul’s Cathedral in the background.  And last night, some music that made it almost possible to believe that there might be a divine being in the world.

Mark le Brocq, opera and classical music singer, performed pieces from Vaughan-Williams, Housman and finally the classic “Danny Boy”.  The story of the Irish father bidding farewell to his US-emigrating son, who will only ever likely “see” his old man again when he comes back to plant flowers on his grave, is a tear-jerker.  When Mark performs it, one is left speechless in order that one’s voice not cracks.  Based in Carlisle, he has recorded two CDs with his 13 year old son, Flynn.  Buy their CDs on www.markandflynn.com
